Americans are generous by nature. If given a chance, most of us would like to leave a
lasting legacy -to make a difference in society and to benefit the lives of others.
In the past, leaving such a legacy was generally the domain of a privileged few. Now,
many giving options allow almost anyone to make a significant charitable gift. In doing
so, you'll not only leave a legacy for the future, but you can also enjoy tax advantages

Bequest
A bequest is one of the simplest ways to remember those you care about most. Through
a bequest you can designate to your favorite charity:
Pension Protection Act 2006
The Pension Protection Act of 2006 created a new charitable planning opportunity.
Under PPA 2006, an IRA owner age 70 1/2 or older may make a direct transfer to
charity. The transfer may be up to $100,000 in one year, and PPA 2006 provided that
this option will exist for year 2006 and year 2007.
Life Insurance
When it comes to life insurance, it's a safe bet that nearly everyone has it and ,
eventually, everybody outgrows their need for it. Your reasons for owning certain
policies may not be issues anymore, but what effect will these policies will have on your
estate? The benefits of your insurances policies may be cut almost in half if left to
federal estate taxes. A charitable organization like the Capuchin Franciscan Friars,
however, can fully benefit from unwanted or unneeded policies.
Nothing is easier than changing a beneficiary designation to make sure an insurance
settlement passes in whole or part to a favorite organization or honorable cause. As a
planning option, insurance proceeds can be split among many beneficiaries, but
changing a revocable beneficiary designation generates no income tax deduction.

A gift annuity is a simple, contractual agreement between a donor and the Capuchin
Franciscan Friars in which you transfer assets to us in exchange for our promise to pay
one or two annuitants payments for life. If you itemize deductions in your tax return,
savings from the charitable deduction reduce the net cost of the gift.

Charitable Remainder Trust
A Charitable Remainder Trust is a separately managed Trust established by the donor.
Income from the trust is paid to the donor and/or other beneficiary for life and/or a term
of years. When the trust ends, principal is turned over the Capuchin Friars, a qualified
charitable organization.
Charitable Lead Trust
The Charitable Lead Trust allows you to pass your assets along to your family with
significant estate tax savings while at the same time making a gift to the Capuchin
Friars. The donor transfers property to a trust creating an income for the Capuchin
Friars for a period of years or for the life or lives of an individual or individuals. At the
conclusion of the term, the principal goes to your younger generation family members,
with estate or gift taxes reduced or even eliminated.
