From October 23rd to the 28th the friars of the province gathered to celebrate their 15th Provincial Chapter. Elected as our

Florida Retreat
Eleven friars recently gathered at The Bethany Center in Lutz, Florida for a week
retreat. During the week the friars gathered for prayer, liturgy, meals and some good
fraternal time. The setting afforded plenty of quiet space and plenty of reminders of
God's beautiful work of creation.

Welcome novices
On July 24th three young men from our province doned the Capuchin habit and entered into their novitiate year. A total of 22
new novices from North America are joined in one central novitiate program in California. From our province we welcome
Travis White, Edwin Zuluaga and Freddy (Jose Auila DeSantiago). Representing our province at the ceremony were
Brian Tomlinson, Provincial Minister, and Michael Malloy. Please keep these young men in prayer during this intense
year of preparation before professing vows as a Capuchin Franciscan Friar. God bless!!!

News from Wilmington and Ministry of Caring
The Ministry of Caring is in the midst of creating a residence to house Cap Corps. The Province of the Stigmata in
collaboration with St. Augustine Province is participating for the first time in Cap Corps and establishing the first house in
the Province in Wilmington, Delaware. Ministry of Caring created an updated webpage: www.ministryofcaring.org

Capuchin Poor Clares - At the triennial chapter of the St. Veronica Giuliani Monastery held on Saturday, July 16th, the
following were elected to serve for three years:

Our Lady of Consolation held their 2nd annual golf tournament (The Carrie Kirkpatrick Invitational) on May 23rd. There
were 78 golfers, lots of volunteers and even some fans joined the players in 90 degree weather. Martin Schratz (pastor)
could be found out on the course in a golf cart offering liquid refreshments to the golfers. The tournament this year was
honoring Mrs. Carrie A. Kirkpatrick, the first African American female golfer in Charlotte and a member of OLC. Carrie is a
native of Charlotte and has played golf since being taught by her late husband in 1942. She is known as the First Lady &
Senior Statesman for African American female golfers in the Metrolina area and has received numerous awards to include
a silver medal in the 2006 Charlotte Mecklenburg Senior Games and in 2007 she was honored with her name being
etched on a plaque at the Revolution Golf Clubhouse. Carrie continued to play golf at the age of 85 until she suffered a
stroke in 2010. Carrie died in her sleep on June 12, 2011. Her funeral was at Consolation.
St. Gerard House - Under the leadership of Nick Mormando, pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Hendersonville,
recently opened was St. Gerard House a non-profit ministry that offers evidence-based treatment for individuals with
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning disabilities, developmental delays, and behavioral health needs. In addition,
we provided training, consultation, and support for families, educators, institutions, and any others involved with the
treatment or care of these individuals. You can read more about this great ministry at www.stgerardhouse.com
Tampa
Most Holy Redeemer Church recently completed a renovation of the interior of the church, including a new AC system. The
first Mass celebrated in the newly renovated church was Palm Sunday. It was a long process as you can imagine
collecting the funds and then going forward with the alterations. While the church was closed, Masses were held in the
Parish Center. Congratulations to John Aurilia on a job well done.
Happy Birthday Fr. Al
Alfonso Pagliara celebrated his 86th birthday regardless of whether or not he was in the
hospital. Friars and staff came to his hospital room to join him. Gratefully, he has since
returned to Most Holy Redeemer Friary where he will continue his ministry.
Jubilee Celebration
Ignatius Zampino, pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Passaic, NJ, celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of Priestly Ordination
at a Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, July 17, 2011, 12 Noon. A dinner reception followed at 2 pm at The Graycliffe in
Moonachie, NJ. Congratulations!!!

Charles is from the Province of St. Conrad.

+ Brother Cyprian Rosen received an honorary doctorate degree in Humane Letters from Neumann University on April 29th.
+ Brother Robert Perez graduated from St. Charles Borromeo College Division summa cum laude and an award in
English literature on May 20th.
+ Brother Lombardo D'Auria graduated cum laude from Belmont Abbey College with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy on
May 14th.
+ Brother Robert Williams received his Master of Arts in Franciscan Studies from St. Bonaventure University.
